Week of November 16th

This week there is a review of Wild Things: Four Tales by Douglas Clegg in the  Human Horror and Psychological Terror section.   Johnny Ostentatious's Afterlife Battlefield is reviewed in the Horror Adventure section.  For the young adults there is a review in the  Teen Supernatual  section for  Skeleton Man by Joseph Bruchac.  You will notice two changes for new reviews, when the publication is from a small press publisher, I will now make the publisher's name a hyperlink to the publisher's website.   In addition, under availability if the book is available new at Shocklines then the word New by availability will take you to the page that allows you to order the book from Shocklines.  There is no commercial or financial link between Shocklines and MonsterLibrarian.com.  Monster Librarian supports the small press horror industry for both libraries and readers of the horror genre.  Shocklines is an independent seller of small press horror books that has an excellent reputation for service and carrying quality products.     


Week of November 8th

A week for Weed Species by Jack Ketchum in the the Human Horror and Psychological Terror section.  Francesca the Librarian reviews The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield in the  Supernatural section.    Finally, in the young adult Werewolves section for The Wereling: Ressurection by Stephen Cole . 

 

Week of November 2nd

All sort sorts of good stuff this week. First off I wanted to thank Deena Warner  work she did on the logo for the site. It is on the splash page and the header of the frames section.   There is a review of Blight by Mark Sonders in the adult Killer Animals section.  There is a review for the second book in the Wereling series The Wereling: Prey by Stephen Cole in the young adult Werewolves section.  There is a review for Brian Keene's book the The Resurrection and the Life from Biting Dog Press in the adult Zombies section.   Finally, there is a review of Michel Gagne's Insanely Twisted Rabbits in the Scary Books for Kids section in addition to a link to a video interview with children/teen horror author R.L. Stine.   The Links page has been updated with links to Biting Dog Press and the home page for Michel Gagne.  Upcoming Horror Fiction Releases has been updated with new entries for November.

 

Week of October 26th

A review of Jeffery Thomas's Everybody Scream!: A Punktown Novel is in the Something Different section.  Francesca the Librarian reviewed M.T. Anderson’s Thrilling Tales: The Clue of the Linoleum Lederhosen by M. T. Anderson in the  Scary Book List For Kids page and The Twisted Window by Lois Duncan in the young adult Human Horror section.

 

Week of October 19th

There are many changes this week including a new frames design for the site.  Also an index of horror reviews found on the site has been created. There are two new reviews in the young adult Werewolves section for The Wereling: Wounded by Stephen Cole and Lone Wolf by Edo Van Belkom. There is a review of Werewolf Porno/Sex Potion #147 by Jeff Strand and Illustrated by Keith Minnion in the Something Different section.   There is also a review of Ek Chuah by James R. Cain in the  Supernatural section.  The Links page has been updated with additional author entries and a link to White Noise Press.

 

 

Week of October 11th

This week we have a review of Vampire Beach: Initiation by Alex Duval in the  Teen Vampires section.   Francesca the Librarian adds a review for Down a Dark Hall by Lois Duncan in the teen Supernatural section and a review for Angelmonster by Veronica Bennett in the young adult Human Horror section.  
 

 

Week of October 5th

A review of young adult vampire book Vampire Beach: Bloodlust by Alex Duval is in the Teen Vampires section.  A review of David Almond's Clay is in the teen Supernatural section.  Wolf Pack by Edo Van Belkom is in the young adult Werewolves section.  For a little zombie action Max Brook's World War Z; An Oral History of the Zombie War is in the adult  Zombie section.  Finally podcast reviewer N.O. has updated and added some addition horror podcasts including Alive Inside and Five Minute Fears by Darker Projects in the  Podcasts section for adults.

 

 

Week of September 27th

A review of Song of the Living Dead by Soren Narnia by Stan Lahn in the  Zombie section.  A review of Vince A. Liaguno's The Literary Six in the Human Horror and Psychological Terror section.   A review of Scream Queen by Edo Van Belkom in the Supernatural section. A Dirge for the Temporal by Darren Speegle is reviewed in the Something Different section for adults.  An entry for The Halloween Mouse by Richard Laymon can be found in the  Scary Book List For Kids page.  Finally,  Teen Horror Spoof A Fate Totally Worse Than Death by Paul Fleischman is in the young adult Human Horror section.

 

Week of September 20th

A review for Black Death Book's Vampire Apocalypse: The World Torn Asunder by Derek Gunn found in the Vampires section for adults.  A review for Slither by John Halkin in the Killer Animals section. 

 

Week of September 14th

A review for young adult vampire books Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz and Sweetblood by Pete Hautman in the Teen Vampires section. The killer caterpillar book Squelch by John Halkin is reviewed in the Killer Animals section.  Bare Bone #7 edited Kevin L. Donihe is reviews in the Horror Magazine and Serials  section Upcoming Horror Fiction Releases has been updated with new entries for October. Finally, for the librarians a new horror readers advisory book Read On...Horror has been added to the  Readers Advisory and Collection Development Resources 

 

Week of September 6th

A review of Blood Worm by John Halkin in the Killer Animals section. A review of  Long Horn, Big Shaggy by Steve Vernon is in the  Zombie section. A review for the chapbook The Mutilation of Paris Hilton by MP Johnson and Spider Pie by Alyssa Strugill in the Something Different section for adults.  Upcoming Horror Fiction Releases has been updated with new entries for October, and  Book Ends has been updated with new contests.

 

Week of August 29th

A review for Slime by John Halkin in the Killer Animals section. A review by Francesca the Librarian in the young adult Human Horror section for The Love Curse of the Rumbaughs by Jack Gantos. A review of Eyes Everywhere by Matthew Warner in the newly renamed Human Horror and Psychological Terror section.  A review for I'm Going to Eat You! by Matt MItter and illustrated by Jimmy Pickering in the  Scary Book List For Kids page.  Finally a look at the publication Horror Fiction Review in the Horror Magazine section.

 

Week of August 22nd

An entry for New Moon by Stephanie Meyer by Havoc as well as a list of young adult vampire books are now in the Teen Vampires section.  I reviewed Slayer by Karen Koehler in the Horror Adventure section. I have added links to more small press publishers in the Links page. 

 

Week of August 14th

I have added a list of zombie titles in addition to a review of Max Brooks' The Zombie Survival Guide in the Zombie section.  I would like to thank the folks on the Shocklines forums for their help on the zombie  list.  Francesca the Librarian snuck away my copy of Vampire High by Douglas Rees and has put a review up in the Teen Vampires section.  She also has given us two new reviews in the Horror Romance section, How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks and Undead and Unreturnable by MaryJanice Davidson.

 

Week of August 8th

A review for Stephen Graham Jones' Demon Theory in the Supernatural section.  I have added a new section for horror related Podcasts with the help of N.O. who also provided a review of Earthcore by Scott Sigler in the Science Gone Awry section.   I have added a large number of titles to the Vampire fiction lists. These haven't necessarily been reviewed but are presented as options for additional exploration. The entries have been sorted alphabetically in two ways by title and by author's first name.  Book Ends has been updated with even more new contests. New links added to the Links page including to destinations such as the Horror Fiction News Network.  Upcoming Horror Fiction Releases has been updated with new entries for September.

 

Week of August 2nd

A review for Vamps in the City by Kerrelyn Sparks by Francesca the Librarian in the Horror Romance section for adults.  New links added to the Links page to HorrorReader.com and homepage for author Tim Waggoner.   Book Ends has been updated with new contests. Additional reviews will be added soon.

 

 

 

Week of July 28th

I have new reviews for Puzzleman by Christopher Alan Broadstone in the Supernatural section.  My first teen Werewolf review in Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause.   An adult Zombie book review in Mondo Zombie edited by John Skipp.   Finally, a review of horror magazine Dark Discoveries in the Horror Magazine section.

 

Week of July 17th

Unfortunately there will be no updates this week.  I am in the process of moving which for the past week has taken much of my time.  I do have a number of reviews that will be ready for next week.  For my returning visitors I encourage you to check out areas on the site that you normally don't visit and look at reviews in  subgenres that you normally don't read.  Who knows you might find something new and fun to read.  Until next week keep reading!

I have added a list of Werewolf books in the Werewolves section, the list consists of mass market press, small press/independent press, and self publication books. Only a few have been reviewed and so you are on your own.  If you read a book from the list and have a review to offer please e-mail me.

 

Week of July 11th

Review of Dave Freedman's Natural Selection in the Killer Animals section. A review for Night of the Wolf  by Alice Borchardt in the Adult Werewolves section.  New author links from author Christopher Alan Broadstone, Matthew Warner, and artist/web designer Deena Warner have been  added to the Links page.

 

Week of July 4th

New review for Thirsty by M.T. Anderson in the Teen Vampires section and a review for The Abandoned by Douglas Clegg in the Supernatural section for adults.  I have also added additional links to the Links page, updated the Coming Horror Fiction Releases, and added a miscellaneous section called Book Ends to the site where you can go to find information about contests that other authors, publishers, and horror sites are having.  The guestbook feature has been removed form the site but may appear in the future.

 

 

Week of June 26th

New review for The Blackburn & Scarletti Mysteries, Vol I  by Karen Koehler in the Horror Adventure section and a review of Ghosts of Albion: Initiation, by Amber Benson and Christopher Golden by Francesca the Librarian in the  Teen Supernatural section.  Francesca told me that she felt that Ghosts of Albion was very much a crossover book and that adult readers would enjoy it as well.   More reviews shall be coming soon.  I have been busy moving this week  but will get a chance to get more items posted soon.  A link has been added to horror resource site Buried.com. 

 

 

 

Week of June 19th

New reviews for The Hollow: Horseman by Christopher Golden and Ford Lytle Gilmore, The Hollow: Mischief by Christopher Golden and Ford Lytle Gilmore, and Devil's Footsteps by E.E. Richardson in the Teen Supernatual section.  I was sent a few copies of Allen K's Inhuman magazine and I was incredibly impressed. I have added a Horror Magazine section for the adult horror fiction list with my thoughts on Inhuman magazine.   

 

Week of June 12th

New reviews for Tim Waggoner's Pandora Drive, in the Supernatural section. Also reviews for The Hollow: Drowned by Christopher Golden and Ford Lytle Gilmore in the Teen Supernatural section and Frenzied Fauna by Michel Gagne in the Scary Stories for Kids.  I have started a general list of vampire books which can be found under the Vampires section for adults. I have also added the Genre Reader's Bill of Rights to the About Reading Section.   I have also added a few sites to the Links page.

 

Week of June 5th

I have added a review for The Fog in the Adult Graphic Novels section as well as adding additional content to the entries there.  A review for Tim Waggoner's Necropolis in the Horror Adventure section for adults, and Midnight Predator by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes in the Young Adult Vampire section.   On a small side note Horrorworld.org has a Thrillerfest contest going which is pretty cool fun and easy, I recommend you check it out.  My final note for this week is that I realize I have undertaken a very ambitious project with this site and there are plethora of great books that I haven't reviewed yet, so if you have any interest in submitting reviews for the site I would greatly appreciate the help. Week of May 28th,2006

I have added reviews of two of Ray Garton's books in the vampire section The New Neighbor and Night Life in the adult vampire section for adults. Also reviewed is The Attraction by Douglas Clegg in the Supernatural Section. Francesca the Librarian has added a review of The Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman and Terrible Things: An Allegory of the Holocaust, by Eve Bunting.  There are new sites added to the links page, the submission page and about the site page has been updated.

 

Week of May 23rd,2006

I have added 3 new reviews for young adult author Amelia Atwater-Rhodes in the Vampire section for young adults. A review for Vampire Kisses 2: Kissing Coffins by Ellen Schreiber in the Horror Romance section for young adults. Finally, two reviews in the zombie section for adult fiction Xombies by Walter Greatshell and Deathbringer by Bryan Smith.

 

Week of May 16th,2006

I just got my new home page image thanks to Dave May. Reviews are now up for Brian Keen's Conqueror Worms in the killer animal section, Shara by Steven Wedel  and Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King in the Werewolf section, and Bob Freeman's Shadows Over Somerset in the Horror Adventure section.

Week of May 1st,2006

I revised the appearance of new reviews on the site, they will be at the top of the the section and designated with the words "* New Review".  That being said there are new reviews for the Cthulhu Mythos section, two new reviews for the Young Adult Vampire section and one for the Young Adult horror romance section.  New sites have been added to the Links page. The New Horror Fiction Releases has been updated and revised.

 

 

Week of of April 24th, 2006

Added reviews for Cthulhu Mythos, Killer Animals sections, and the Scary Books for Kids list.  Havoc emailed a list of a couple of vampire/horror themed adventure series  and horror romance series can be found in their respective sections.   Added a new site to the Links page for librarians.  I hope to have a few other reviews done this week.

 

 

Week of  April 17th,2006

This week I am reading Island Life by William Meikle which has been a great book so far and I hope to have a review up soon. I have update the Links page with William Meikle's site.   I have added an entry for the Zombie section for the Adult Horror Fiction List, and added book covers when possible and added availability of the books.  I am going to work on revising the other entries when I can.  I have added a new section for young adults dedicated to books on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and currently have a list of known Buffy books put together by Pesha.  I have put up a link to a list of Scary Books for Kids(12 and younger) which has its first entry.  I have cleaned up various sections of the site and have edited some of the reviews.   I would like to thank every one who has submitted reviews and indicated interest in submitting reviews.

Finally a few entries for the Werewolves section, yes I know its only a few but it will grow with time.  I added to the main page a section called New Horror Fiction Releases which takes the place of Author's Notes. Thanks to the folks at Shocklines message board for helping with the information for that section.   Finally, coming soon for this site will be a Young Adult horror fiction section.
