Halloween is just around the corner and vampire is one of the easiest costumes out there. In fact you can do it pretty simply with what you probably already have in your make up kit.
What you need:
Basic- Foundation (colorless works best) or white cream make up, baby powder, black eyeliner, brushes
Twilight style- Basic plus white silver or iridescent glitter and a light pink lip gloss or lipstick
“Vamp” style- Basic plus deep burgundy or red lipstick (even males “vamping” out need a lip gloss with some red in it), eye shadow of choice (but grays/silvers work best) and mascara
Interview with the Vampire style- Basic plus a pale blue eyeliner or eye shadow stick and a light pink lip gloss or lipstick
Scary Vampire style- Basic plus gray eye shadow and fake blood
How to do it:
1. Start with a clean, dry face and your hair pulled back. I prefer foundation to cream make up because it’s better for you (lots of times foundations include sunscreen or lotion) and because cream make up works best for real extreme whitening, the kind best for zombies not vamps.
Smooth either over your face in a thin, but thorough layer.
2. In a flat container (I use Tupperware lids), pour some of the baby powder. If you’re going for a Twilight vampire mix a pinch or two of the glitter in the baby powder. Use a large brush to apply the powder over the make up. Use plenty and continue brushing to blend the powder into the foundation for a seamless look.
3. Line the eyes thinly with black eyeliner (males too). You can put a touch of fake blood at the corner of your mouth and go like this, OR:
For Twilight style- Apply pink lipstick/gloss, focusing on the inside of the bottom lip then blending out toward the edges.
For Vamp style- Males, leave the eyes as is and skip to the lips. Ladies, apply a cats eye edge to the eye liner and follow with a smoky eye. Apply the darkest color along the same line as the eye liner. Apply the medium color of choice across the lid and the palest color under the brow line. Apply mascara.
Both, apply the lipstick. Don’t be afraid to make the outline of the top lip a little sharper.
For Interview with a Vampire style- Ladies, apply eye make up if you’d like (especially in colors that match the outfit you’ll be wearing). Apply lip color, most generously along the inner lip and blending toward the lip edge. Ladies can go for a fuller lip.
Using the blue eyeliner pencil draw or trace veins along your face, particularly along the temple or jaw line. To go a step further trace veins on your hands as well.
For Scary vampire style- Use the eye shadow around your eyes (especially under them) and well blended under cheek bones to hollow out the face. Apply blood trails along the corner of the mouth. If you really want to go all out consider adding some extra gore or even fake wounds. (Better you let a friend go with you as a victim.)
Outfit Suggestions:
Vampires are easy because you can wear almost anything.
Twilight Style- Jeans and T-shirts or button downs work real well. Pair with a messy hair do for guys and you’re golden.
Vamp Style- This is an excuse to go daring. Think tank tops with safety pins along the straps. Or a corset. Skirt, long or short work well. So do black jeans, or pleather ones. Add silver jewelry and boots or heels. Black black black!
Interview style- Here’s the big chance to play (if you have the time to plan ahead). Poofy shirts and tight pants for guys. Richly colored formal dresses for gals. Or, for a more modern look try the rock star angle with jeans, leather jackets and fishnet (especially tops, especially on guys.)
Scary style- With this you can go anywhere. Fancy dress, or cowboy, jeans or even pajamas. The key is to wear old clothes so you can liberally dose yourself in fake blood.
Have a safe and happy Halloween!
