T.V. Review: Trese

Trese is a Singaporean anime-style t.v. show on Netflix based on the Filipino graphic novel series by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo. Like the Castlevania series, it is much more adult themed than a lot of anime and deals with dark themes, so watcher beware.

However this mix of dark urban legend, monsters, and found family is right up their blog’s alley. Trese is Alexandra Trese, the current peacekeeper of a series of pacts between humans and the supernatural creatures of the world. These Accords, however, are under attack, and might just have been founded on lies to begin with.

Between solving supernatural crimes, keeping the peace, and protecting victims, both human and supernatural alike, Trese must also face down her past and her parents’ failures.

I really enjoyed each episode and the overall series arc. I’m a sucker for paranormals and found family stories, and a found family built of respect and honor, powerful magic users and two demigods is perfect for me. The only down side is there only the one season. But then there the graphic novels to hunt down as well.
