In Episode three we finally get to see some links between the t.v. incarnation of Ms. Marvel and the comic origins of Ms. Marvel. They are subtle, but as the episode opens in a flash back showing where Aisha (Kamala’s great grandmother) found the bangle that appears to be bringing out Kamala’s powers we get to see the bangle being recovered from a blue skinned arm, indicating it is Kree tech.

Najma coming forward to try to share the origins of the bangle and Kamala’s bloodline is suspiciously nice, but ultimately parallels the DoDC also coming for Kamala. By the end of the episode Najma reveals herself as the season’s big bad.
This episode, despite a hefty and somewhat awkward measure of info dumping, is probably my favorite because of the wedding scenes. Both the joyous wedding itself an the subsequent battle at the venue are fun scenes and so very far removed from most of the cosmic battles we see in Marvel stories these days. Compared to even Najma’s story from the beginning of the episode, it feels so personal and intimate. It reminded me of watching the Netflix Marvel series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) compared to the Marvel movie phase featuring Chitari invasions.
