The Vampire Diaries: Episode 2 “Night of the Comet”

A super rare comet passing over Mystic Falls and a killer vampire on the loose–what could possibly go wrong?

Immediately we get emotionally invested. Jeremy, Elena’s younger brother can’t seem to do anything right, except fall for a girl who can’t return his feelings because she’s in an abusive relationship. Did I mention she also is one of the first vampire victims, which serves as a metaphor for the whole abusive relationship thing.

And Bonnie is trying to figure out who she really is, with her heritage as a witch showing up the same way as embarrassing Aunt Flo might.

Elena herself is finally starting to see some recovery after the death of her parents and the reshaping of her family. She is a bit too much of a golden girl, sweet, good, intelligent. But who can’t help buy idealize themselves the same way?

And, really, who can resist the chiaroscuro cast of attractive men and women in black and white, their faces half-shadow.

So in this episode we find out Damon attacked Vicki and wants Stefan to join him in his human-eating ways. And Jenna gets shamed into trying the hard line tactics to control Jeremy (yeah, like that’s going to go over well). The calm center of the whole town is Elena, who is so filled with glowing happiness over her late night connection with Stefan that she doesn’t even seem to notice people are, like, dying, and having break downs and the world is going to supernatural hell all around her. It’s all good, because Elena is falling in love.

Over the top and eye-roll-worthy as it might seem, it’s still very engaging.

    1. This review is from: Vampire Diaries was a great seires!! I didn’t like how the last book in the seires was going but it ended up great! The book starts with: girl meets hot vampire Stephen and his also very hot but evil brother Damon. She is in love with the kind hearted Stephen, but evil Damon wants her all to himself. She trys to stay away from Damon but no matter what she does he keeps finding ways to get to her to take her blood, slowly turning her into a vampire. She cannot tell Stephen what is going on because he is still weak from a horrific battle with Damon, and if she would tell him he would become so angry he would try to kill Damon and end up dying because he isn’t strong enough to battle him again so soon. The whole seires has a great plot, but I definitly recommend buying all the books before you start reading the seires or you will be left hanging untill the next book. Trust me I know! I started reading the Awakening #1 in the Vampire Diaries seires, and I had to end up waiting for two months to find the second book and another month to find the third and fourth book. I have read the seires about 6 times since last year. L.J. Smith is a great writer, if you like the vampire diaries you should read the Secret Circle seires and her Night World seires.
