While only one story in this collection directly portrays Batgirl (both of them, actually and I love so much who Barbara Gordon is here) the women around Batman v 2 Terry McGinnis take center stage for once. Unlike Bruce Wayne, who mostly remained aloof (and above) from society Terry is an active part in it. A second gen super hero, he has a brother, a mom, friends…perhaps, though, Bruce had more friends than he realized as well, as many of the stories in this volume introduce Terry to Bruce’s allies.
I really like this interpretation of Batman. Terry seems more balanced, more like a certain friendly neighborhood (high tech) super hero than a brooding rich guy judging the city and acting out power fantasies. To see a book entirely about a hero’s connections to the people and community around them is great. Recommended for comic fans and public collections.
