Oh, Teen Wolf, you are such a fine example of some good being mired in some thick, bad, tired, sorry, writing muck. Last season I felt like the writers were trying to push Scott, Styles, and the OW (original werewolf) crew out. This season is even worse. No Derek at all!
In this season an old friend of Scott’s (that we have never seen before, okay, fine, I’ll accept it) comes back to town and tries to join Scott’s pack. But Theo is in league with the only cool part of this season, the weird magic/science/hellacreepy Dread Doctors.
So the good: The Dread Doctors are mostly good. They are genetically splicing normal people into supernaturals. They are a mostly silent threat with a high creep factor. Lydia is in Eichen House, going nuts and being used for her banshee powers. Parrish. Yum. All good there. The Chimera pack. This is a great idea since the writers are also phasing out the older characters. A whole pack of outcast teens who were given powers, but are led by a sociopath and trying to conquer their high school life with violence and intimidation instead of compassion? Great conflic and plot.
Oh, this season could have been so much more.
But then the Dread Doctors only exist to bring The Beast (the first werewolf *eyeroll* because werewolves don’t date back way before France late 1700s, like, you know, Romulus and Remus who founded Rome and were nursed by a wolf or anything…) who just wants to kill lots of people for fun. Let’s completely ignore that we have much better weapons and systems of communications, scientific knowledge and training these days. The FBI would be on this serial killer before Daddy Stalinski could blink. Really, the best part of The Beast story line was Gerrard Argent showing back up,
A very scattered and weakly-written season, this one has me questioning if I should even both with the final season, which I am told is even worse.
