MonsterLibrarian.com's 3rd Anniversary
MonsterLibrarian.com has reached its third year. I started the site not as a business but rather as a service to help librarians with a genre than many are not familiar with and to help horror readers find another good book to read. I seek to increase literacy and leisure reading. I want to thank my fantastic staff: Bret Jordan, Michele Lee, Bob Freeman, David Agranoff, The Angry Princess, K.D. Payne, and Jamie Blackman. They have contributed so much to the site with reviews, interviews, art, and guides.
Over the past year we have:
Hosted the "Spring into Terror" horror fiction review project that included Horrorworld, Horror-Web, Hellnotes, Horror Drive-in, and DarkScribe Magazine.
Had Werewolf Month, where we significantly added to the number of werewolf titles reviewed, and posted a great short story by Bob Freeman as part of the event.
Added significantly to our section on "Scary Books for Kids".
Added Jamie Blackman's excellent Collection Development Guide for HP Lovecraft.
Created a guide for YALSA's Teen Read Week, which had the theme "Books with Bite".
Hosted the "Halloween Horrors!" horror fiction review project.
Interviewed the following authors: Melissa de la Cruz, Daniel Waters, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, Steven E. Wedel, Rio Youers, and Steve Vernon. Thank you, all, for your participation!
Appeared as a reputable readers' advisory resource on many school and public library websites.
And… more than doubled the number of unique visitors to our site each month!
I want to thank everyone at Shocklines who has helped with titles for the horror fiction lists and helping out with the occasional inquiry we get about people looking for a book that they read in the past.
I also would like to thank Nanci Kalanta of HorrorWorld, Vince Liaguno of Dark Scribe Magazine, Dave Silva of Hellnotes, Greg Lamberson of FearZone, and Mark Sieber of Horror Drive-in, for participating in our horror review projects and Matt Schwartz for his help over the years.
Finally, thanks to all of you who use the site. You make all the work worthwhile. We hope that we are able to help you find another good read in 2009!
